2年あまりのアメリカ単身生活を終え,2010年9月から日本で活動再開.子供の頃に記憶された「脳の中の原風景」を頼りに,ふるさとの自然の良さを探す心の旅に出ています.

Memories of Summer

Typhoon 18 is attacking our island.
Now we have strong wind and heavy rain.
c0312063_12282257.jpg
c0312063_12282344.jpg
While being locked in my room, I recalled some scenes of a past sunny summer day. It was a bright day, still giving painful sunshine on plants and creatures.

But the tunnel of cherry trees, where I used to explore something new in nature, gave me comfortable atmosphere(↓).
c0312063_12281759.jpg
I found two players, Kamakiri (mantis) and Abura-Zemi (cicada).
c0312063_12282020.jpg
First, I thought that Kamakiri was aiming at the cicada, but they were independently living there without any fighting.
c0312063_12271294.jpg
Suddenly, the Kamakiri started hunting and he successfully got a small victim.
c0312063_12271536.jpg
On the other hand, the Abura-Zemi was calm and still like a statue.
c0312063_12271918.jpg
On a closer look, the cicada put on spider net, which told a history of her breaking through the net.

...Summer has gone, and the typhoon has come.
Good bye, summer.

KENZO ESTATE WINERY GION in Kyoto

I had long been desiring to visit KENZO ESTATE WINERY GION in Kyoto.
It is a prestigious wine-centric restaurant, and the chance came on July 14, 2017.
But it took over 10 minutes to reach there after getting off a taxi, because it was hidden behind "Noren" (short split curtain in front of the door) saying KE (Kenzo Estate).
c0312063_11031531.jpg
c0312063_11031788.jpg

Kyoto in summer is so beautiful, but it may be difficult or risky to walk around under strong sunshine.174.png
If we do that, steam running nearby looks like an oasis for us (↓).

c0312063_11003500.jpg

Here we came!
We were invited to a reserved room on the 2nd floor.
c0312063_11013016.jpg
Movie on the history of KENZO ESTATE in Napa Valley California was being displayed.
It tells why the owner Kenzo Tsujimoto chose this place in Napa and how he created such jewel-like wines.
c0312063_11013463.jpg
If you visit with your partner, you would stay at bar-style seats on the 1st floor. The 1st floor's appearance (↓) quite resembles that of the original wine shop at KENZO ESTATE of California.

We can taste 7 kinds of their products, including "Asatsuyu (あさつゆ)", "Yui (結)", "Asuka (明日香)", "Rindo (紫鈴)", "Murasaki (紫)", "Ai (藍)" and "Muku (夢久)".
c0312063_11003707.jpg
c0312063_11014552.jpg
It is interesting (↑). Magnum bottle of "Asatsuyu"!
The label is unique.
But it was not affordable for us....117.png

c0312063_11014332.jpg
c0312063_11031102.jpg
Cuisine was well designed and served for each wine.
The timing was also the best.

The below is a dish featuring beef for the "full body" bottles "Murasaki" (Merlot-based blended red) and "Ai" (Cabernet Sauvignon).

c0312063_11004809.jpg
c0312063_11004651.jpg
The glass for "Ai" was from Zalto!
It was so delicate, and it immediately made us gourmet.
c0312063_11013691.jpg
Still feeling excited with wines and cuisine, we enjoyed dessert with the ending sweet wine "Muku".
c0312063_11014087.jpg

It was such a warm night that we saw many people resting by the river.
c0312063_11031982.jpg
Now "Murasaki" and "Ai" are resting in my tiny wine cellar.
Of course they are half bottles, because my secret savings are too small....103.png

Enjoy your summer!

The World Heritage "Miyajima"

When I visited Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Dome last June, I went on to Miyajima by ship.
Miyajima (or Itsukushima) is also well known as a World Heritage Site.
c0312063_14074845.jpg
Perhaps it is my second visit to Miyajima.
Last time I came here at "high tide", I saw O-Torii (Grand Gate of Shrine) floating on the water like this (↓).
c0312063_14082133.jpg
c0312063_14082141.jpg
Until the 2nd visit, I did not know why the Shrine and O-torii were built at this location where tides rise and fall.
Because the island itself is believed to be God's body, so that ancient people chose the location to prevent damaging the God's body (island).
Indeed, it is entirely a sacred area filled with green, oceans, and spirits.

This time, it was at low tide, so that we could directly walk to the Gate.

c0312063_14080628.jpg
c0312063_14080821.jpg
c0312063_14081045.jpg
The gate, built of decay-resistant camphor wood (kusunoki), was so big and tough, reaching about 16 m high.

I had much time to walk around the shrine and the nearby beach, taking many photos.

c0312063_14075253.jpg
This place may be the most sacred building where God resides (↓).
c0312063_14075026.jpg
Calm place...
No voices...
Feeling God.

After traveling around the island, I got together with my colleagues to have Spanish food at downtown Hiroshima city.
Our choice was "Ishioka" the back-street Tapas restaurant.
It was casual but the food was special. I recommend you.

Hiroshima - the place for praying

In the middle of June 2017, Kyoho Grapes were rapidly growing.
Every year, I feel happy and comfortable to see them grow.
Various tones of green....
So beautiful.
c0312063_21293440.jpg
c0312063_21280716.jpg
c0312063_21273094.jpg
Flowers and egg plants in my own garden were also at their best in this term.
c0312063_21305518.jpg
c0312063_21312929.jpg
About 2 weeks prior to the flower and plant season, I visited Hiroshima to participate in a medical meeting.
The day before opening of the meeting, my colleagues and I went to a Okonomiyaki shop. It looked old and even rusty for me, but the traditional Hiroshima-styled Okonomiyaki was so good!
(Okonomiyaki means "savoury pancake containing meat or seafood, vegetables, and noodles". See below.)
c0312063_17121673.jpg
The photo below demonstrates a completed Okonomiyaki with brown sauce.
It goes well with Beer, of course! 167.png
c0312063_17122061.jpg

It is quite natural to think about War and Peace when we come to Hiroshima.
This city is well known for its tragedy caused by Atomic Bombing in 1945.

In the morning on June 9, 2017, I walked along Oota River to approach the Atomic Bomb Dome (A-Bomb Dome), imagining similar blue sky in the calm morning of August 6, 1945.
c0312063_17130929.jpg
On the way to the Dome, you can see many pavement reliefs indicating "Promenade of Peace" under your feet. (↓)
c0312063_17332759.jpg

The Dome....
I was standing quietly, hearing birds singing and lost people talking.
Talking of their daily lives 72 years ago.
c0312063_17135362.jpg
c0312063_17162437.jpg
c0312063_17145850.jpg
c0312063_17154394.jpg

Near the Dome, you can see "Atomic Bomb Memorial Mound".
The ashes of victims excavated around the city were placed under the round-shaped mound.
c0312063_17171854.jpg
c0312063_17175680.jpg

The next point to visit is "Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum". (↓)
c0312063_17190084.jpg
The horse shoe-like shaped monument has list of names of over 290,000 victims under the ground.
Most of the lost people suffered from burn and radiation injury, and they tried to escape from high temperature and severe thirsty, diving into rivers. Therefore, the monument is surrounded by ponds filled with clear water, so that the water can relieve thirsty of the victims.
c0312063_17194210.jpg
A-Bomb Dome, the monument for the victims (↑), and the Peace Museum stand in a straight line.
c0312063_17213924.jpg
Entering the museum (east building), you can find a picture of clock indicating 8:15 (am). It is the time of bombing.
Not the moment of war ending, but the start of relevant agonies and deaths and the start of Cold War.
c0312063_17285761.jpg
c0312063_17304397.jpg
If you stood in front of large pictures on the walls, you would feel catastrophic collapse of your soul and body.
c0312063_17293593.jpg
Incidentally, I noticed that the young woman dressed with red shirt (↓) was crying near the photos on the walls.
I realize that sympathy and mutual understanding of the tragedy can go beyond country borders and religions.
c0312063_17301709.jpg

It must have happened in an ordinary morning....

For tourists, several cruising plans are available.
From inside of the cruisers in the river, you can gaze up the Dome. (↓)

In the end of this issue, I will remind the peaceful sentences carved on the monument stone.
"Let all the souls here rest in peace; For we shall not repeat the evil"
Yes, "we" should be interrupted as "all human beings"....
c0312063_17311464.jpg
See you! 165.png

Zen Temple

Beautiful sunny days!

On May 19, 2017, I was on the seashore of "Nijino-Matsubara", Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture, Japan.
"Niji" means Rainbow, and "Matsubara" dose pine tree-covered area (belt) along the beach.
c0312063_17095306.jpg
The Karatsu Castle is located near the coast.
Seaside and Castle....
Good place to hear both sounds of waves and voices of ancient people.
c0312063_17102580.jpg
Comfortable day....
Made a cat sleepy.
c0312063_17100110.jpg
How happy he seems to be!
c0312063_17100827.jpg

When you climb up to the top of Kagami-Yama Mountatin (featuring a shrine), you can see both beautiful sea and the pine forest.
Sunset time may be the best.
c0312063_17103802.jpg

On May 19, 2017, I walked around my birthplace.
Fresh green leaves have come out.
It is really the best season before forthcoming rainy days.
c0312063_17094699.jpg
In this season, you can see "Azami" flowers.
The language of this flower is "independence".
c0312063_17194050.jpg
c0312063_17091479.jpg
Many beautiful flowers welcome you!
(Unfortunately, I do not know the name of such tiny flowers as below.)
c0312063_17093608.jpg
As reported in the previous issue, fields are totally covered with green.
Green of grape and persimmon trees.
c0312063_17104850.jpg
Baby "Kyoho Grape"(↓).
c0312063_17194981.jpg
On June 3, 2017, I walked up to nearby mountain to take pictures.
Long slope....
c0312063_17110711.jpg
Unique plants and flowers.

c0312063_07244400.jpg
c0312063_17193133.jpg
Peach trees (upper field; right half of the photo) and persimmon tress (lower; left).
c0312063_17112803.jpg
From the middle of the mountain, you will get a nice view.
c0312063_17105714.jpg
c0312063_17115192.jpg
Young leaf bud of persimmon tree(↓).
c0312063_17192397.jpg
Baby persimmon(↓).
c0312063_17191909.jpg
At last, I reached "Daishoji Temple", a kind of Zen Temples.
Climbed a long stone-paved stairway.
c0312063_17120737.jpg
Cold and clear spring water was running through the stones.
c0312063_17184228.jpg
In front of the temple, you can enjoy traditional Japanese garden filled with mysterious atmosphere coming from deep forest.
c0312063_17122984.jpg
c0312063_17123906.jpg
c0312063_17124718.jpg
We feel many spirits in the calm place....
c0312063_17131263.jpg
c0312063_17133491.jpg
c0312063_17135573.jpg
c0312063_17140419.jpg
c0312063_17134304.jpg
c0312063_17141270.jpg
c0312063_17182746.jpg
The temple reminded me of my younger days, when I was into hunting beetles (real beetles, not the Beatles). About 45 years ago, lots of beetles and stag beetles lived here (around this temple), and various insects, too. It was a paradise for young boys....

Where do they live now?
I am not sure....

I will be back later to take photos of moss in rainy season.
See you! 165.png
