2年あまりのアメリカ単身生活を終え,2010年9月から日本で活動再開.子供の頃に記憶された「脳の中の原風景」を頼りに,ふるさとの自然の良さを探す心の旅に出ています.

The Imperial Palace

The Imperial Palace in Tokyo

The Palace is the residence of the Emperor and Empress of Japan.
It is formerly known as the Edo castle, which was built by the first Shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa (1543 - 1616).

It is an oasis in the center of the technopolis Tokyo.
Like those who often come to Tokyo seldom walk into the castle, I have never been inside the castle until January 21, 2018.
It was a cold but sunny Sunday morning....

I started my short trip from the Tokyo Station, which has just been renovated.

c0312063_14351875.jpg

A new wide street straightly stretches to the Palace.

c0312063_14351995.jpg

Walk along this street, you will find the castle (Palace).
Then, turn to the right along moat(堀) surrounding the castle, you will reach Otemon Gate(大手門)(↓). It is one of the entrances to the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace. It is FREE!103.png

Passing big stone walls and old trees, you will come up to Honmaru(本丸) of the castle.
Over 400 years ago, Honmaru was constructed as the core of the Edo castle, which included headquarters and residences for Shogun, his family, and lots of staffs.

Here you come to Tenshudai(天守台), the base for a main castle tower, which was first built in 1607.
The third and the last one built in 1638 was 58 meters high, the highest and largest castle main tower ever built in Japan. It burnt down in the great fire in 1657.

...I shared happy time with many active runners running around the Imperial Palace.

On the same day, I stopped by at 「ビートルズ展「Ladies and Gentlemen... THE BEATLES!」 」.
There were nostalgic stuff, guitars, bass, and costumes etc....

It is extremely cold in this winter.
They say that another or more cold wave may hit all regions of Japan.
Take care!

正月 2018

New Year 2018 has begun!

On New Year's day, my family got together to express greetings of New Year and had a party with traditional Japanese New Year's dishes.
c0312063_15425579.jpg
In addition to what seen in the above photo, we tasted black soybeans(黒豆), herring roe(数の子), shrimp(えび), sashimi of yellowtail(ぶりの刺身), and so on. Of course, sake was so beautiful.
c0312063_16183379.jpg
Everything was so nice, and I was stuffed. At last, I could not move.
But..., do not forget about Zoni(雑煮)(↓)at the end of the party.
c0312063_15323672.jpg

On January 2, I walked around my house having camera to take pictures.
I was surprised at drastic changes in nearby rice fields. Paved road was under construction and it was penetrating the middle of the fields. They say, "The darkest place is under the candlestick."
I heard Mother Nature crying.
c0312063_15325182.jpg
Even Big Mud Snails were killed.
c0312063_15351145.jpg

I encountered another tragedy. Bird(s) was unfortunately attacked by some creature(s) and probably died.(↓)
c0312063_15344877.jpg
c0312063_15350830.jpg

If you see fields more in detail, you can find gentle breathing of plants for the upcoming spring season. Spinach was tough, and they were steadily growing.
c0312063_15345564.jpg
Wheat, too.
c0312063_15351458.jpg
Flowers, also enjoying sunshine.
c0312063_15351843.jpg
c0312063_15352119.jpg

Hope we all have a wonderful year!
See you! 165.png

Washington, D.C. 2017

Although I am not sure how many times I visited Washington, D.C., this stay between Oct. 21 and 25, 2017 gave a special impact on my mind.

First, as usual, I enjoyed walking around the monument and surrounding museums.
c0312063_16021137.jpg

It was a fine day, and I felt more comfortable in DC than in Japan with cold rainy days.

Our hotel was POD DC Hotel in downtown, which is very close to China Town.
c0312063_15591286.jpg
A Rooftop Bar of our hotel attracted me, and we went there.
It had a nice view of DC, showing the illuminated Monument.
c0312063_15591546.jpg
c0312063_15591944.jpg
c0312063_15591734.jpg

Looking for spare time in the period of medical meeting, I visited "Holocaust Memorial Museum".
c0312063_16021238.jpg
c0312063_16021419.jpg
Soon after I entered the exhibition room, shocking photos and movies jumped into my eyes.
Of course, I had critical knowledge and information about what was done in Auschwitz by Nazi, but the real ones were beyond description.

Train car, which carried victims to the death place(↓).
c0312063_16021669.jpg
Door of Gas Chamber:ガス室の扉(↓)
Uncountable Jewish and non-Jewish people were suffered and killed behind the door.
c0312063_16021854.jpg
The victims had to take off their clothes and shoes before taking a "shower", that was never a real shower but killing gas.
I was lost for words seeing huge piles of women's shoes (↓).
c0312063_16042945.jpg
c0312063_17340310.jpg
What happened in Auschwitz seemed to be a reflection of insanity and brutality hidden deep inside our minds.
"Never Again"....
Quite similar message also seen in Hiroshima.
c0312063_16043177.jpg

The below is another story.
Before flying to DC, I dropped at Asakura district (Oct. 7), where heavy rainfall and flood destructed houses and infrastructures (July 5, 2017), including roads and bridges.
Owing to warm-hearted help from volunteers, the situation was getting better. But it may need longer time to regain beautiful nature and people's ordinary lives.
c0312063_15565899.jpg

On the same day (Oct. 7, 2017), I walked around my neighborhood. It is my routine.
Rice fields turned into yellow in color, showing nice contrast to blue sky.
Hope this calm and peaceful place lasts forever.
c0312063_15570051.jpg

Oh, I nearly forgot reporting steak and wine in Washington, D.C..
The below is New York Strip. So nice, but I regret not having Filet Mignon.
In this restaurant (Ray's the Steaks(http://www.raysthesteaks.com/home.html)), the latter was better.
c0312063_16043500.jpg
Wine was beautiful.
We can get one on the Web in Japan.
c0312063_16043381.jpg

While I was taking a rest on my blog, it is getting closer to the end of this year!149.png
I should re-activate my mind for pile of work.

See you!165.png

Memories of Summer

Typhoon 18 is attacking our island.
Now we have strong wind and heavy rain.
c0312063_12282257.jpg
c0312063_12282344.jpg
While being locked in my room, I recalled some scenes of a past sunny summer day. It was a bright day, still giving painful sunshine on plants and creatures.

But the tunnel of cherry trees, where I used to explore something new in nature, gave me comfortable atmosphere(↓).
c0312063_12281759.jpg
I found two players, Kamakiri (mantis) and Abura-Zemi (cicada).
c0312063_12282020.jpg
First, I thought that Kamakiri was aiming at the cicada, but they were independently living there without any fighting.
c0312063_12271294.jpg
Suddenly, the Kamakiri started hunting and he successfully got a small victim.
c0312063_12271536.jpg
On the other hand, the Abura-Zemi was calm and still like a statue.
c0312063_12271918.jpg
On a closer look, the cicada put on spider net, which told a history of her breaking through the net.

...Summer has gone, and the typhoon has come.
Good bye, summer.
c0312063_12281443.jpg
c0312063_12270930.jpg
See you! 165.png
